I have never really had much of a clean up crew, but I want to add one since I am getting a reasonable amount of algae growth for some reason. Especially hair algae. I currently have one clownfish and one six lined wrasse in a 30 gallon tank with probably a little over a 1 inch sand bed. Also have a three chamber fuge with a skimmer in one chamber, live rock in the other, and third being chemipure and return. Was wondering what you guys would recommend

Also if you are interested, look up algae turf scrubbers. They can help keep the algae growing in the sump instead of the display, and help with nutrient export through the algae growth.

Also, are you able to put in any shrimp or anything with a 6 lined wrasse?

I had a six lined wrasse in my last tank K and never had any issues.tgey can bully other fish, but mine mostly hunted things in the live rock all day.

I tried a peppermint shrimp once, 3 to be exact. He ate all three of them

I almost started over due to algae problems... I bought 30blue legs crab, 10 turbo snails a sea hare, sea urchin, two ruby emerald crabs... Its all under control now.... Im very happy with the results so far.

I think the clean up crew becomes lazy especially if your a heavy feeder. Using flake food, liquids, almost anything that cannot be 100% eaten by fish or coral becomes food for your clean up crew. Then what is the incentive to eat algae? When I first got my crew my tank was clean, and overtime I noticed that it isn't as clean as it use to be. The clean up crew wasn't knocking back the algae it once did. I am getting ready to purchase a new crew and see how well this theory holds up.

Back to your question, vibex snails, Turbo snails, Trochus, sand sifting starfish, stay away from crabs some hermits are ok, but most are just waiting to damage, flip, or eat your soft corals.
