Can some explain the difference between clean and dirty water. Then maintaining SPS and lps in each.
Can you successfully grow both?

My definition of dirty water would be no nutrient export as in high nitrates and phosphates and or traces of ammonia and nitrite.
My definition of clean water would be proper export of nutrients as in low nitrates and phosphates with no traces of ammonia or nitrite. This is achieved by proper filtration mechanical and biological. along with some proper water changes. You can definitely grow sps and lps together. All it takes is keeping your parameters in the acceptable range for good coral health.

Yep, you can grow both. I have found that if I am for Phosphates in the .03-.06 range and the Nitrates around 10ppm and of course Ammonia and Nitrites 0, both LPS and SPS stay pretty nice. If the water gets much "dirtier" the SPS looses a little color. If it gets much "cleaner" the LPS does not open quite as big.

Dirty water is under 20 Trates
LPS get used to the clean water at under 5. Lots of people do it, they also feed em pretty well to keep them happy.
