I have one cleaner shrimp in my tank right now. Its not unusual for him to stay on the same rock all the time (he doesn't get out much) Every now and then, he might venture to the next rock over if he is feeling ambitious. I was watching him the other day and I seen him getting defensive when fish would come up to him or swim by, which is not like him. he would curl back and his front legs will do some karate moves and stuff. After the fish would swim away, he would take his front legs under his abdomen and reach in there messing with what looks to be little round things. I haven't noticed him doing this before. Is this normal? I only have one, so I don't think they can reproduce without another, but that's just what I read online.

I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure they can have eggs even though there is only one. I am guessing that is the case with yours. They actually have both male and female organs.

Is there a cave or overhang for it to feel safe and secure?

They tend to stay in caves and wander at night when it’s safer for them.

They also need a safe place to molt and then recover for a couple days.

Will they be fertilized also? I'm not sure what I would do with a bunch of baby shrimp in my tank, but I assume unless I get a nursery for them, the other fish might think they're food and eat them when floating around in the tank?

They would be eaten very quickly.

I have a bonded pair of cleaners and they release eggs regularly.

Don’t last but a few minutes if you happen to be there at the right time to even see it.

Yeah, what he said :)...they will be fish food within minutes if not seconds. I have had coral spawn and release eggs...the eggs didn't even make it more than a few inches away from the coral before they were devoured. Still cool though!
