So 3 hours ago I bought a saltwater cleaner shrimp.I put the plastic bag in my tank for 20 min so it can get use to the temperature and after I poured the shrimp from the bag into aquarium. He seemed fine at first so I went out to eat and after I came back suddenly he was dead with hermy my Hermit crab eating the shrimp. My mother thought the small hermit crab was the culprit but I said there is no way..

Did I do anything wrong ? My other fishes are doing fine so I’m confused.

He probably didnt handle the acclimation. It can be stressful on them. Or a fish decided to pick on it to death. What kind of fish?

I have one Hippo Tang and 2 Clownfishes and hermit crab

Neither of those strike me as a shrimp killer.. someone else may have to chime in
That’s why I am so confused what went wrong. This is a new tank. I also have a Zoa to

I’m thinking most likely not acclimated to your water parameters.

Do I have to buy a drip tube so I can slowly acclimate them. Are those more better?

You don’t have to get one just use a small cup or something like that. You can use a drip line and it’s more evenly spread out but I have a little dosing cup that is 50 mls and I usually pour one cup in about every 10-15 minutes. I do it for about an hour to hour and a half. It’s a little excessive but easier on the fish and inverts

They need a longer acclimation than other livestock. I would shoot for at least one hour of acclimation. You can tie a knot in a piece of airline tubing and tighten the knot till you get about one drip per second and you should be good. Good luck next time

Sorry for the loss. Somethings just don’t make it, not to sound simple but that’s the way it is in the hobby. Keep your params in check, Mother Nature owes you one.
