Bought my first cuc yesterday, Hermints, Snails, Couch and a cleaner shrimp, was maintaining tank today, cleaning algae off glass, filling ato etc. I so what looked like my shrimp dead with a Hermit Crab chewing on it, after close inspection the body looked just a bit to transparent, research and molting turned up, Is this normal less than 24hrs after putting him in the tank ? Still have not seen the shrimp if it has molted, can t seem to get a good photo ( 30 in deep ), but some may recognise it, orange thing on sand in middle

I bought 2 shrimp my first time one died during acclimation. The day after I woke up and saw what looked to be two cleaner shrimp on a rock. Almost had a heart attack that I was being haunted by a shrimp till I realized it was a molt.

Lol, Hope I can see a shrimp in the morning

They hide after molting until their new shell hardens up. Their shells are really soft after molting which makes them very vulnerable so they hide. It'll be out n about shortly, usually a day later.

You will! Mines usually molted about a week or two after a full moon. It's been getting to be a longer cycle as it gets older which is normal.

Usually does it at night and when I wake up it's in its cave hanging out. Back to normal within 4 hours in my experience!
