I am about to set up a new, mainly fish only tank (350 ltrs), but I would like to add a couple of cleaner shrimps ( Lysmata amboinensis / grabhami or similar). I was wondering how nitrite tolerant these shrimp are and the same for ongoing nitrate levels? I do hope that I won’t have any nitrite after maturation, but I am also aware that any biological loading could see a very short and small rise in Nitite and in the early days, some elevated nitrate levels?
Thanks, Killyfish.

What makes you think a rise in nitrite would be an issue? IMHO, a tank with good bacteria will process ammonia and nitrite very quickly. I think it's nitrates you need to worry about.

Yes, that is true, Nitrates are the bad boys to keep an eye on, but in my experience, with new set ups there can still be nitrite spikes for a little while, even after chemically cycling the tank before livestock introduction.
