Hi guys I just got a cleaner shrimp and its been a day so far and its been hiding a lot. I am just wondering if its normal for a cleaner shrimp to hid cause I though they are usually out in the open.

I think it’s completely normal for a cleaner shrimp to hide. Mine is only active at night when the light is off.

Give it time to adjust, it will start coming out more when its comfortable (and when tank is fed).

I have to agree, I've had mine for over a month now and they're only now starting to hangout where I can see them during the day.

Depending on which cleaner shrimps. When I had the scarlet, it’s out and about all the time even when I first put it in the tank. The fire shrimp on the other hand has always been a hider for me. I see it occasionally but I would have to look for it.

I got blood shrimp for myself 2months ago have only just started seeing him more the once a week
(usually). I wasn't able to get to my tank for the past month and the person looking after my tank was sure he was dead since she hadn't seen him the whole time- little chunck of mysis dangled infront of his usual hiding place quickly showed he was still ok when I got back.

1 day is not much time at all, hopefully in the next few weeks he'll become more confident for you!

One skunk cleaner hid at the back of my tank at all times. He would only explore the tank at night when the lights were out. He's been the sole shrimp resident for a few years.

I added a second skunk cleaner a couple months ago, and now they are both hanging out on a rock overhang right dead center of my tank.

i just got a blood red fire shrimp or aka scarlet shrimp (as my LFS called it), and it has been hiding underneath a rock in the back of the tank since day 1. it will come out during feeding time and it can be seen roaming the tank at night scavenging for food. i hope it'll find a nice hiding spot in view from the front of the tank :(
