I’ve had my tank up a few months and have added a few fish with no issue, but each time I’ve tried to add a shrimp it has died within hours despite several hours of drip acclimation (1 hour the first time, 2 hours the second time). I’d really like to have one (I find them fascinating) and am thinking of giving it another go. Any tips that maybe I’ve missed? (The fish store where I purchase them acts like they just float the bags for 30 min and dump them in their tanks with no issue). Thanks in advance!

Biocube 32; two juvenile clowns, one coral beauty angel
Salinity - 1.025, temp 78, pH 8.2, Neg amm/nitrite, nitrates 10.

I actually agree with the guy at the store, just float for a while then dump them in.

how old is your tank? Could be a water issue or else one of the fish harasses the shrimp.

How did you keep water temp constant over 1-2 hours?
A temp change would do them in fast.
Very sensitive creatures, likes stars and feather stars.

Also, when you open the bag, ammonia spikes if he’s been in there for a few hours.

When you acclimate to Alk, did you first check the dkh in the bag versus your DT. A slightly lower Dkh in the DT than the bag, would be preferable

A change more than .5dkh in 1-2 hours would be suspect as well.

So get a good handle on the dkh variance first, then temp acclimate, then put in.

Maintaining iodide in the 0.03-0.06ppm is beneficial to their shed.

What’s dead mean?
Munched, halved, totaled, or just rotting.

Water is perfect (at least the parameters I’m checking). I have not checked the water from the fish store for what that’s worth.

I have not been diligent on temp.. house is 72 degrees and I’m dripping in 78 degree water, but I have not kept a heater in the bucket.. was thinking that might be something to consider

Just flip the floating the bag thing to last before putting in.
All else before.
