cleaner wrasse disappears / reappears

So I have a very active cleaner wrasse who is constantly servicing five tangs. Also, appears to be eating well, although hard to tell since his mouth is so tiny. Then after about six months he disappears. I figure he probably went carpet surfing, but no trace. Three days later he reappears, and looks completely normal, very active as before. what the heck ???

Cleaner wrasses are well known for hiding in the smallest holes in LR. It prob found a cool new hiding place and decided to chill until appetite returned
