Figured this is a Fowlr related discussion, does anyone have or has had cleaner wrasses with their groupers? It’s a fish I’d be willing to add to my tank as I find their behavior interesting, was uncertain whether my grouper would swallow it.

It would have been a lot easier if the wrasse was in first. Normally that grouper is going to try eating something the size of a cleaner wrasse as soon as it hits the water. But cleaner wrasses will harass puffers, especially Arothron sp., but also porcupines, just a heads up

Good info, will probably pass then. I feel like my tank is missing a wrasse. Maybe I’ll get a razor or a coris.

Would love to see if others have cleaner fish/shrimp with their large predators

For what it's worth I got rid of my miniatus when I found him swimming around with a male bird Wrasse that was a whole 2" longer than him sticking out of his mouth. Try to stick with tall fish (tuskfish, adult dragon wrasse, etc). He also ate my lunare wrasse.

I have also kept a white spotted grouper (Epinephalus summana), a coney grouper, and a panther grouper, all of which behaved about the same. The white spotted also normally is just a dull brown, especially as it grows. I do not recommend it. My wife referred to him as our floating potato

Yes I forget that I need to stick to taller fish. Mine ate a Cuban hogfish that was very close in size. Dragon wrasse would probably be a fun one or maybe I could get a butterfly

That's actually pretty impressive!

Its hit and miss. Generally theyre ok with cleaner wrasse and shrimp but they could still eat either at anytime if theyre feeling hungry. The bigger the grouper the better the chance of success with cleaners

I know this isn’t exactly a new thread but I have a cleaner wrasse with the same type of grouper and they’ve been fine for about a week so and I’ve even caught the cleaner wrasse cleaning the grouper! The cleaner wrasse was added first
