I have searched some and havent found much on cleaning a used tank. Just wondering what everybody uses to clean a used tank prior to putting back into service. I know white vinegar for sure cleans good but is that enough???

Thats all i have found also. Didnt know if there was some kind of cleaner to disinfect. Well that job is done, now just to get all my other stuff so i can put together.

There is a solution called "magiclean" which I've used for powerheads and pumps, however on a big tank this would be a bit pricey. Vinegar and water is cheap and very effective for tanks. and a razor blade for the coraline.

I use Bayers to kill everything after the first scrape off, then a good water hose, then do as the others said. As a final wipe I use alcohol. Then while it dries, I go get a beer, but surrender to the wife's dare to inter the house in such a mess from the clean up, leave most of my clothes in the garage and head straight to the shower. Then if I'm lucky she may bring me a beer, if not, I know I'm in serious trouble. Which means I best get back out there and clean up every once of that mess, and pick up those clothes, and get my own beer.

Cleaning out a used tank can be a pain. ...not that I would know or anything.

Vinegar and water cleaned it up nicely. I just poured the whole gallon in and mixed some water and started scrubbing. I will do this again before setting up. I still have a ways to go and a lot of $$ before ready so no hurry.

What is Bayers? As for the alcohol i guess that wouldnt be a bad idea as it will evaporate anything that was left in there.
