Cleaning algae off rocks with brush in tank?

A poster on her suggested brushing off algae on rock into tank. Seems like this just helps it to spread? Is this not the case?

if you do it before a water change you can suck the loose algae out or you can allow the overflow to remove it if there is enough agitation to keep it moving. some people use a small hose to siphon it out while brushing.

Yes I have been doing it right before but I still think it has something to do with the sandbed getting larger patches of it right afterwards

Better off to remove by hand and siphon out.

Very hard to get off rock by pulling it

I am daily pulling it off the substrate.
It’s gotten worse recently and I had cut feeding back

for lights I have on led blues from 11-9pm but t5s and led are only full for 4 hours

too much light?
