This is what I use. In the past it had never scratched any of my tanks, including cheapo plastic ones, and even when sand is caught in it.

However, I just got a Fiji Cube and it did scratch the Fiji. Based on my experience, it would seem more like it is a problem with the Fiji glass, so if you have a Fiji, then I'd probably suggest don't use any cleaner at all. XD Maybe a cloth. Maybe.

On the inside I use a magnet scrubber. On the outside I use a damp paper towel - even one dribble from feeding or whatever leaves salt residue. I'm still new so take my input with a grain of salt. I promise I did NOT mean that pun.

I use a magic eraser inside and regular windex sprayed on a paper towel on the outside. I used to use the Flipper but it scratched the inside of my glass tank with a bunch of micro scratches. It came from using the scraper side (tank was BB so no sand). Scratches were not seen until algae started growing inside them.

Personally wouldnt use any aerosols around the tank. Water and soft cloth works well for outside of the tank.

I have done it that way for over 20 years.....not going to change now lol. I don't spray the windex next to the tank....it is sprayed on a paper towel in a different room.

I've been using Windex right out of the bottle and on to the glass. It's never been a problem. I'm just careful not to spray it in the tank.

And honestly, I don't feel that it would be a big deal if you did. The amount that sprays out of the bottle with each pump would be diluted beyond harmless, even on something small like a 40 gallon breeder.
