Just wondering what are the benefits and negatives of leaving the back wall with algae?

Cleaned mine today but couldn't help feeling guilty I was taking away a home for pods, and does allowing algae on the back wall help with controlling nutrients or promotes more nutrients in the water?

It's just an appearance thing. It really bothers some people though. A lot of my snails and urchins get their food from there so I only clean mine once in a while. I just do the top where you can see it.

When I start a new reef, I only scrape the green algae one or two times. On the third time, I will remove any excess but not scrape ever again. Then over time the Coralline grows.
