It's currently going through the uglies, with only a lone stomatella hitchhiker for cleaning right now. Long term, what would be a good crew? I'm planning on having macro algaes, and possibly psudomugil rainbow fish

Trochus snails devoured algae in my tank. A single one will probably make quick work of everything. Adjust your flow to prevent algae buildup, water changes, and a snail or two will be enough.
What kind of tank do you have? I’ve been interested in a pico reef for awhile.

Eh, just some red-rimmed, no name 3 gallon I found in the back of a LPS covered in dust with a free dead cricket. I'm making a garbage theme tank, trying to mostly use coral that are unwanted, but no one can quite bring themselves to get rid of. I even made a garbage can ornament, which looks like crap, so I'll ask if someone can print one with frag holders for me. I'll be opening up for donations (willing moderate travel and small monetary compensation for the donations). I'm assuming there might be a fair amount of softies.

I was also going to go with a micro goby, but even the regular prices of saltwater fish are stupid, so I'll get some psudomugil, possibly breed them, sell the rest (or keep them, I've got FW tanks), and convert to marine. It looks like a could get a school of them for the price of one goby.

A garbage themed tank? That’s a new one to me, I like the sound of it though. I’m sure you can get a lot of freebies by asking around, your LPS probably has some stuff too. I agree though, some saltwater fish cost a lot, too much usually. If you ever have a Frag swap or aquarium show in your area they are definitely worth checking out. You can get a ton of free stuff there, supplies, frags and whatnot. It’s a great learning experience too.
