Whats the best way to sterilize old filthy filters, skimmers and foam without using harmful chemicals?

Can i rinse with regular tap water from the faucet without effecting the reef water?0

If you're looking to really sterilize things, soaking them in hydrogen peroxide will do the trick. It oxidizes the organic matter producing carbon dioxide (the bubbles) and water as byproducts. Once you're finished soaking things, give them a good rinse. You could probably use tap water, but I'd go with RO just to be safe. Vinegar will help remove any crusty build-up there might be on the equipment.
