Hi I set up my 55 gallon aquarium 4 months ago. I set up all my equipment but didn't add any sand or live rock to the system but filled it full of water. I added the salt and some declorinator. 2 months later I emptied the tank but still left water in the skimmer and my canister filter. How do I clean the equipment now that I left it there for 2 months. There is lots of salt and the water left in the skimmer and canister filter stinks. I never put anything in the aquarium but I had a controller, heater, several wave makers, and an auto top off system. How do I need to clean the tank before setting it back up again to be a reef tank?

Should be able to rinse most of it out and just replace the media within the canister filter.

Otherwise can soak in a water / vinegar overnight, rinse well the next day, dry it out, then you should be good to go!
