Cleaning external filter

Hi all
New tank - 3 weeks in and all going well. 2 clown fish, fire shrimp and some snails since last weekend

Just wondering if I should clean out the external filter this weekend ??

you will likely get opposite answers but I like to keep new tank filters clean in the beginning until the ugly stages passes while also keeping an eye on nutrients.

its best if you use water change water to do it after performing a water change so the only thing that gets rinsed away is detritus.

Many thanks... haven't cleaned out the filter yet so might do this weekend. Yeah, will use the water I take out
