I got a new used tank and it's in rough shape I will post a picture to go with this as well but I need help with how to clean it. I used vinegar and it did some damage but it's still pretty bad so was looking for some suggestions from you guys how you clean your tanks.

Vinegar is your best bet. New trick I learned recently is to soak a towel in vinegar and let it sit on the glass for a few hours. Worked pretty well for me. You can also fill the tank with a water vinegar mix, but that's a lot of vinegar. I have heard of some people using muriatic acid to clean tanks but it seems a bit harsh to me. Here's the tank I cleaned recently. I used vinegar, a razor blade for scraping and the trick with a towel soaked in vinegar for the tough spots such as the overflow.

Yup I done this. It works.

I have recommended the towel soaked in vinegar for decades. It really works. For the back, front and sides, lay the tank on its side so it soaks well. Use distilled white vinegar and do not dilute it, that raises the pH and its not as effective. A gallon jug is less than $2 and if you have a Costco or Sams they have a 2 or 2.5 gal jug real cheap. By not diluting it you can strain it and pour it back in the jug to use over and over for cleaning powerheads and pumps before it finally loses its strength and you can safely pour it down the drain.

Thanks guys I will definitely try that
