Got new tank that was used as fresh water. I’m making it a salt water tank. Anything specific I should use to throughly clean it

What are yours plans for the tank? That’s a sweet one.

I’d drill the back, do a ghost overflow, sump below. That thing will be epic.

I usually use vinegar and water to clean out new tanks

I use a spray bottle with 50/50 water/vinegar. Razor for the glass. Be careful not to go overboard around the silicon (remember to inspect the silicon while you do this).

I’ve always wondered what that chloric acid (I think) stuff is and how it works. I would be tempted to get algae and whatnot off all my pumps just don’t really know what to use.. following!!

Don’t know what all that means. I’ll be using it for seahorses only

Congrats on the tank!! Do you plan on putting your seahorses in this tank? I’ve always loved seahorses and had a mixed reef with 2 pairs a few years ago. But ended up moving and had to shut it down. I’ve been so tempted lately to start a new setup for them.

And all good advice your getting. As others have already said it, personally, I would use a spray bottle with vinegar and water and use a scrapper while being mindful and inspecting the seams. Are you going to drill it?

Cut holes in it with a diamond hole saw and install an overflow box. There's plenty of flavors and most include the hole saw. Make sure the glass isn't tempered though. Modular marine makes a nice overflow imo, was gonna go with them but I ended up with a tank that is reef ready.

By drilling the tank, you can setup a sump tank. You can also use a HOB overflow if you don’t want to drill it. You would be able to plumb a sump tank, which could house all equipment, like protein skimmers, reactors, heaters, chiller, and anything else you may want to add to the system. The water is returned to the tank via a return pump and return line. You don’t need an overflow or sump, but down the line, it does make life easier in my opinion.

There’salways an external overflow box too such as life reef. I love mine!
