Cleaning Liverock of sponges

I just bought some liverock for the first time and unsure about cleanning them. There is some orange tube shaped sponges about the size of a finger that look alive and some plant like growth. Do I need to remove all that to properly cure it?

OOH Id like to see some pictures!!!(I like sponges) and some are worth keeping. You may be able to remove them and "frag them"
The algae you should def clean off. If you have some old tank water and a power head you can take your time doing it.

Yes you can. Most folks with Live rock are super paranoid about algae n bugs. So you could add store bought hydrogen peroxide to the bucket and "dip" it for that stuff. The sponges may not survive that. As well as other hitchhikers.

You can spot treat the algae with a little peroxide too.

Out of biopride I would attempt to keep and farm all sponges and treat the rock in a manner to preserve delicates

I don't think they're as risky as the masses claim about dying off most are slow starvers in tanks (if the rock was uncured ocean rock) and not a huge source of ammonia or chems

The ones from aquarium cured rocks have a good chance of living. Lr origin matters to my game plan when sponges are involved

If yours are aquarium grown then try and farm them in my op
