Cleaning Media

I have notced in the past that even though I clean my Sock, and Media filters in hot tap water they still release cloudy grey water when put back in. I recently washed them in salt water from my sump when I do maintainance. Quite a bit more comes out of them into the cleaning water, and no cloud when added back to sump. Anyone know why? Also what is in the cloud?

What kind of media filters do you have? When I ran filter socks I laundered them after every use (I kept enough spares so I could rotate them in and out).

Filter socks, and a membrane phos reduder which has long served the purpose now just use for filtering
