Okay folks. So tomorrow, I'm going to try and "deep clean" my sump of detritus and other random items by using a shop vac. I think others have done this before so I'm looking for any tips or suggestions.

My plan is to drain as much water as I can from my sump (20G-ish), scrape down the sides with a plastic paint scraper, and then use a shop vac to suck up the remaining stuff. I'll refill the sump with new saltwater so this will double as my water change.

Thoughts, fears, etc? Thanks in advance!

I change water from the sump, I really don’t scrape anything as i want to keep the good stuff. Mileage varies

Absolutely nothing wrong with that plan. A good deep clean removing all the trapped detritus is a good annual maintenance requirements.

Just completed that part.bought a dedicated shop vac to clean the back of my aio and other than modifying a few vac attachments to better get into certain areas it all worked well.the vac fills up so much faster than you'd think so grab a towel. Lol
