Was wondering how often, if at all, people take apart plumbing to clean out gunk from inside the pipes? I do sections occasionally and find brown gunk on the inside of the pipes. Is this usual or a sign of a problem.

If You can clean the pipe out, I'd say go for it every so often. I don't know if it's bad or not but it can reduce flow . Let's see what others say
Ps I think it good planning to have the pipes setup in such a way that Ya can clean it out .

More than likely bacteria growing on the surface area of the pipe. Typical of a reef setup.

I clean what I can when I think of it or feel like it...or it stops working.
