What is the best method for cleaning main DT pump. I have a Sicce 3.0.

do you cycle it in clean RODI water?
cycle in RODI w/ vinegar?

Never done it and i want to ensure i do not ruin the mechanics of the pump.

thanks.,

I usually just run it in very warm water and vinegar. Overnight is great but usually just an hour or so does most of the work.

Thanks. How do you keep water cycling in your system if you clean the pump over night? You have a replacement?

I do have backups but that’s why I mentioned an hour being good :). Should have been clearer.

So long as you keep the temp up and the water moving you’ll be OK for an hour without the return pump.

I do the same thing "the engineer" stated. Soak in warm vinegar water for about a half hour/hour, scrub it down, reassemble, rinse with clean RODI water, then put it back in the sump. I usually do it during a water change when the return pump is going to be off any way. As long as have power heads/wave makers in your display, having the return off for an hour wont hurt anything. I went 2 days without a return pump and all was still fine. Would definitely not recommend taking our your pump for 2 days, but just proving that 1 hour isn't bad at all.

@mjlash22 -- I see you live in MI. What part of MI do you live? I live in the tri-county area. Curious what LFS do you frequent?

I live in Monroe. Used to live in Taylor. I loved making the trip up near Royal Oak to Atlantis, but unfortunately it burned down. I know use Tropicorium in Romulus. There's really nothing near me in Monroe which is upsetting. Most of my routine maintenance supplies I'm forced to order online. Huge BRS buyer/supporter.

Tropicorium is one of the better LFS--great variety and selections. As a matter of fact i will making a trip out there tomorrow.
