cleaning QT sponge filter (copper) to re-use in DT sump

hello people

I have used a sponge filter in my QT with copper. We're told never to use the equipment in the dt because of the copper. I don't have my qt running 24/7, but I want to put the sponge filter in the dt sump to get it cycled, so when I need it I can use it straight away. its been out of water for few months would it be safe to put in the dt sump or will it leech copper? also how would you go about cleaning the sponge to rid it off copper so I can re-use it in the sump ready for the qt

Throw it in the trash and buy a new one. You can get the sponges on eBay or amazon. Not worth the risk with how cheap they are.

if you need to quickly cycle your qt, would new sponge filter with a quick start solution work? I don't really want sponge filter constantly in my sump
