After I’ve tested the water how should I clean the water off the refractometer lens? I was worried simply wiping it off with the microfiber cloth would cause a buildup of salt on the cloth which could scratch the lens? Being to cautious maybe haha but it’s a rather expensive refractometer.

clean or exchange your cloth

I always squirt it with RO water from a Pipette and wipe with a soft cloth

I have been using refractometer for years now for brewing purpose. Now I started to use it for saltwater (a month). What I always do is to flush it under rodi water. It is sealed so you don't have to be super hyper delicate with this device. And than I use my t-shirt to dry it. I don't close it in the box since some moisture might have left there so I leave the box open till the next time.
I have never used calibration liquid and I am using the cheapest refractometers. No problems with accuracy with sugars in beer :)
