Is it possible to clean the skimmer too often? I just got my new tank up and running the week of Christmas 2018, and I haven’t cleaned the skimmer yet. Is it possible to clean it too often, and how long should I let it go before it needs to be cleaned again.

If you mean the skimmer cup, I used to clean it every week, but now I clean it every 2-3 weeks. I know it probably makes it less effective but to be honest I haven’t noticed any difference in performance

If you mean the whole skimmer I do it at least once a year, but ideally twice. It’s just one of those jobs I sort of don’t like doing, although it’s easy. Ok, lets say once a year! Lol

I clean my weekly same time I test params and refill ATOs (Just the skimmer cups and two skimmer "catches" I have)

The actual body of skimmer I clean roughly every two to three months. This ensures air venturi doesn't plug up w/salt build up.

Exactly the same for me. The cleaning is the easy part! Removing, untangling wires, etc is the biggest pain, especially without getting the floor wet...shhhh. Haha

To clean a venturi I us a drill bit of the appropriate size between my fingers.
Works better than anything else I have tried.

I try to clean mine once a week. After two weeks the drain from the cup will start to clog which will affect performance. Don't use soap, just water.
