I have to remove my subrstate to move, how would i clean it before putting it back in the tank
Cant afford new substrate, the movers are costing me a fortune

how fine is the substrate? u just need a strainer that's fine enough and u dont really need to clean it before you put it back

Clean it like it was new (just bought). 5 gallon buckets filled about 1/2 way and run water/sift substrate until the water is clear. I would not reccommend using it without cleaning it!

Totally agree with ReeferBob, definately clean it before re-using it. It will be full of all sorts, including nitrates

I just cleaned my sand like the way reefer bob described. Depending on how much sand you have it's gonna be a long process to get it clean. Also I recommend rinse it with rodi water in the end just so that all the crap from the tap water doesn't get into your tank.
