Cleaning that new tank / sump before getting it wet

I've been thinking about this as I prepare to add a new custom glass sump to an existing system. Previously I've just used water and vinegar to clean the build funk off of the glass and silicone, but does anyone else ( #reefsquad ) use / do something differently? This is the first time I've added a major new component like built glass to an existing tank, and one that's packed with SPS frags no less.

I used water and vinegar as you've mentioned when I purchased my used Reefer170. The sump was pretty badly caked, but I let the mixture sit and the sump cleaned up like brand new.
