I let it go because I don't really like my fish store colored background. I have decided to clean it because it seems to be consuming a lot of elements. I'm planning on doing a patch at a time as in the photo. Do you think that 2 or 3 days between patches is enough. I crashed an aquarium by doing the whole thing years ago. Don't want to do that again.

I would just keep track of parameters as you clean it. Check them before you clean a spot to get a baseline and then check them again before you want to clean another area to make sure nothing is spiking.

Just an update. Cleaning continues. Its 80% done. The calcium reactor is now keeping up with demand. The consumption was extreme. The corals have accelerated their growth already.
