I broke down my old tank and bought new rock for my new one. Now I want to clean the old stuff. Algae infested nasty stuff.

I'm thinking about giving it a few months soak in a high concentration of hydrogen peroxide like 50/50. I'm planning to do a qt setup this spring so the rock would be nice as I want to be simple with it just a hang on back filter.

Any other ideas are welcomed

Dry them out in the sun for a week. I just finished doing this with some rock that needed to be reset.
After it's dried out, clean it off as best you can. Next, put it into a large bucket or trash bin (new one) with saltwater, a heater and a powerhead. Cure the rock in there until it has fully cycled. Make sure to change water every few days.

I do a Muriatic acid bath followed by rodi soak then leave them to dry a few days, then drop them in a bucket of fresh saltwater with a pump to cycle them.

Only downside I would say depending on the strength of the acid and the length of the bath vs the porosity of the rocks you could dissolve quite a bit of the rock itself and what’s left can be fairly sharp and jagged.

I have a few pieces of old branch I think. It's been outside in north Idaho for 2 years so it has some green algae from sitting. Best way to clean it without dissolving the rock? Maybe pressure wash and scrub it good? How do I dissolve any organics in the rock? It's going in an established tank so is it necessary to cycle it first? Was thinking of running in sump for a few months before going to display.
