Curious....who paranoid are you with spraying cleaners around the house with an open top tank? I keep my tank in the bedroom and I don't let my gf spray perfume in the room, or glass cleaners, pledge, etc.

Now I'm thinking of getting a bigger tank and putting it in the garage. But worried about all the other "stuff" that gets sprayed around there.

Am I overly paranoid? Is it really that serious?

I keep a tank in the garage and inside.. both have probably had some things settle in there that should never be in your tank haha.. I mean, dont spray window on your lights to clean them or anything.

I do not spray cleaning chemicals, air freshners, carpet / fabric freshners, etc. in the same room as our tanks. Better safe than sorry, IMO, considering how much time and money goes into this hobby.

I use vinegar + water mix to clean glass, and don't spray anything else around the tank. We had cleaners come over before appraisers came and I made sure they weren't getting to crazy with sprays - you're not being overly paranoid. Assuming you're running some carbon and as Kray mentioned not shooting it directly into or above your tank you should be OK, but this stuff could really wreak havoc in certain situations.

I wouldn't call it paranoia. Just common sense :) I never spray anything around the tanks.

Same here. My tank is in the living room. I never spray any chemicals near the tank. Just makes sense not to.

My wife thinks I am crazy, but no spraying of chemicals in the house near the tank. We don't use pesticide either.

I dont worry to much my wife sprays somethings in the house and I never get worried. She dont purposely spray towards the tank but I am sure sometime within the past 6 years my tank has got something in it but the amounts are so small I really doubt it would affect anything.

I don't spray anything near my tank. I don't even like it sprayed in the same room! I do run carbon.

I'm worried about when I move the tank into a the garage tho. Actually I started to think about theft?! I've heard of it happen to other before. So now I'm thinking about installing security cameras. LOL

My wife sprays stuff all the time and i b cussin. lol But she knows not to spray near tanks. And BTW i have 600gal of them in the house :D one of my reefs is 8ft long open top (Rimless) Im very paranoid of that one.

Let someone even remotely come close to my garage at night. I dare you. Matter a fact screw that if you can get in with no problems I will give you everything you see. I have VERY big bullmastiffs that dont play and probably weight more than you lol

Theft ??? I have Two Doberman's I will have some AKC Dobie pups Soon If u need a real security system. Cameras work good to know who it was but theres nothing better then blood left behind
