Cleaning Your Skimmer

How often do you clean your skimmer and what parts do you want to leave alone?

I clean the cup and lid once a week and pull the body and pumps to clean overnite about 2 to 3 times per year.

Mine is just an aqua c remora. I clean the cup about once a week, and pull the whole unit off my tank and run vinegar water thru it about once a year. The pump itself needs to be cleaned about every 6 months since its close to where I dose alk.

I clean the neck out daily with a toothbrush, collection cup maybe twice a week, the skimmer body very rarely, maybe every 3 months

Clean my whole cup every two days. No matter how full it is just so the neck stays nice and clean.

I clean the cup once a week and body once every 3-4 months. I just let it run in vinegar after i scrub the chamber with an old toothbrush.

Thanks for the response guys, I had heard that you should leave the neck alone so the bubbles have something to gain purchase.

Skimmate will improve if you clean the neck daily. I simply just take a pitcher of water and a toothbrush, scrape the gunk out and then rinse the toothbrush in the pitcher of water, I keep doing this until I am pulling no more gunk, then the wall of foam re-appers

Ahh maybe that was what I heard. I have been known to take what I hear, turn it into something completely different, then spit it out as gospel. I am a one man telephone game.
