I bought a recent tank from a individual that I set up for a reef. It’s been up and running for a little while and notice the glass has stains on it. It looks like they sprayed it with something and stained it and it’s showing. Any ideas on how to maybe clean it off keep in mind this tank is up and running with fish and rocks already so there no taking back apart. I’m not sure what it was clean with maybe acid that might be why it’s showing up. Thought about trying to sand it but was unsure if it would be harmful.

I've heard of folks using magic erasers in established tanks, but never tried it myself. It might be abrasive enough to remove the stains without scratching the glass. Like I said, I've never tried it. Might want to do some research before trying it. Just a thought.

Looks like something was sprayed on it and it run down the glass.

Is it just on the back wall or is it on all glass?
Dose it feel rough when you run your finger over it?
Will it scrape off with a straight edge blade?
From the pic it looks like some kind of chemical stain.

It’s on all the glass that pic is in the front glass. It want scrape off and you really can’t fill it. I haven’t tried anything else to try and get it off.

Kinda worried about what might be leeching into the water. Also, if you manage to get it off with the tank full, how bad it might be for the inhabitants as it enters the water column.

That’s what I’m worried about nothing has died yet. I’m thinking it might of been sprayed with acid and let it set for a while. Didn’t know if they may be a way to get it back clean.

From the pic it looks like it was filled up with some chemical as the line looks even all around the tank.
How big is the tank?

Idk about a magic eraser, i thought it was moist with a solvent. Idk if its reef safe, how about a 3M scotchbrite?

Going to try and sand it tomorrow with scotch pad or paper and hope it comes off. If it was muratic acid stained you think it will hurt anything if it comes off.
