What type of clean up crew can i get if i have a porcuppine puffer n a niger trigger. The niger is not as curious as the puffer tho so im worried he will eat all my invertebrates. Ideas please?! Thnks

pretty much your cleanup crew is also your daily snacks for your fish. best bet is to buy in bulk.

Wow really?! So they have no chance because of those 2 fish? Man i was hoping to hear otherwise

not really. im not saying they will wipe your cuc out in a day or anything. the more you feed, the less they will bother your cuc and they may never touch your cuc. but it would be a good idea to find someone local who can get you bulk crabs and snails. something you can do is make your rockwork so that your cuc can get inside but your puffer and trigger cant. they will come out at night and do their job.

Ok i see and yea tht is such a good idea to make a rockwork for the cuc... Thnks for the idea :)

just be sure there is water flow going through any caves or hallows you make to prevent low flow areas.

What size tank, and what are you trying to have the cuc clean up?

Brittle and serpent stars are good all around scavengers. Larger conchs, such as spider conchs are big enough not to get flipped and have a thick enough shell to withstand a puffer bite. If the tank is large enough there are a few fish that will take care of algae.

Size tank is 120 gal. And basically detrius because i might be overloading my tank with fish [emoji85]. I wouldnt want to get something like a bristle star and it gets picked on by the niger but mainly the puffer because he is so curious. So what do you suggest with my size tank?

Brittle and serpent stars are nocturnal, so they will hide under the rocks all day, if added after lights are out, they should be able to avoid the puffer.

If you don't have corals, some of the non reef safe stars, such as choc chip and generals do a good job too.

Thank you so much. I will def. look into those :)

In addition to the larger Conchs, you could also try some larger Cowries and some Urchins. Those both work for me with my Tusk.

Not sure about porcupine puffers, but some tetradonts are able to eat urchins. Theey bite urchin spines bit by bit, then bite the urchins open.

I had luck with chocolate chips stars and conchs plus also narsisus snails to keep the sand sifted. At the time I had a 150 gallon aggressive fowlr with a pufoffer 2 triggers a Niger and a huma huma plus at the time a sfe among others. Also oversize your skimmer if possible and run as many filter socks as you can. The puffer is a very messy eater Hell my lunar wrasse just ate what fell out of his mouth.

I heard urchins were agressive n i was worried about some of the smaller fish i have tht are like 2" now... Do you think thy will eat or pick on my smaller fish? Or fish tht are semi aggressive?

Urchins won't bother fish at all, unless a fish gets startled and inadvertently swims into an urchin spine, they won't interact.

My experience with my Stars and Stripes Puffer and my Porcupine Puffer are that my Stars and Stripes will eat any smaller fish that has ever been in that tank and the only cuc that didn't get annihilated were my long spine urchins.
