Clear PVC

Anyone tried Clear PVC for their sump plumbing?

seems like a pretty good way to monitor for blockage and whatnot.

Its a bit pricey, but seems like it might be pretty slick looking.

It will promote algae growth in it. That is the reason clear silicone tubing is rarely used.

I’ve bought some and used a bit for my Refugium overflow - you can see what the flow’s like so if you can stomach the price it’s nice - there are even clear valves to match…

Watch which pvc cement you use though.

Yes it will grow some algae, and just generally get slimy. But it might be useful if the light is not bright, and if you want to watch for bubbles or other things flowing through.

Yeah I could imagine that, though I haven’t noticed too much of a problem yet and it’s been a few months.

It would be interesting to see… silicon naturally attracts algae, im not sure PVC does

I use it on my secondary bean animal drain in the sump section only. Makes it easy to set how much water I want bypassing my roller filter.
