ive noticed after I got my dos hooked up and running that slowing there’s been this layer on water surface in return section of sump. Can dosing cause this or could it be another problem. But it is only the return section cause it’s the only section with no movement. But it was never like like before I started using the dos, that’s why I think it could be from that

What are you dosing?
Here’s my schedule. It’s the only thing I’ve done the last few months that’s change is what makes me think it could be from it. Is this a bad dosing schedule, it seems to be keeping it vary consistent

I have this also, so, looking at your sump, witch is nice by the way , Can we assume the the water enters from the bottom? ( return section) ? I set up my sump this way ,to have up welling water. iI figured it would lift detritus from collecting. Any way I get this also & think it's caused by no water movement at the surface. so proteins etc form with nothing to wash it away. !just quickly lay a section of paper towel on the surface & it sucks it all right up.

I had the same thing off and on during the first year of my 50 Cube in the sump. I don’t know what it was or what caused it.
It never seemed to bother anything in the tank. When I set up some cheato and a power head to move the water in the sump it went away.
I’m curious to know what it actually is.
Some people suggested it could be caused by air fresheners or scented candles. ???

I’d put a power head in that section to make some movement but my ato is there and it’d mess with the sensor. It’s just it just started happening this past month or so and like I said the only thing I’ve changed in the last few months is adding a doser.
I guess I just suck it out when I do my weekly cleaning

I have the same thing going on with my kalkwasser set up. Like you said I think I am going to try a little pico power head to create some flow in my return chamber but hopefully not enough that it would mess with my ato.

I've got it too. It tends to build up in the first section of my sump. I assume it's because the outlet to the second chamber is at mid water level and doesn't disturb it.

It doesn't seem to do any harm so I don't bother it anymore.

BRS 2 part, 25.2 ml daily

Neither of those should contribute directly to a slime layer, which would mostly be organic matter. Some sort of overflow or increased turbulence should eliminate it. :)

It is hydrophobic organic matter, and those are organics, but certainly not the only possibilities.
