I’m in the plumbing stage of my build, and I’m wondering how much clearance between the sump and stand walls I should leave. The stand is black, and I’d like to be able to clean the walls and sump glass if needed. However, the stand doesn’t leave much room after my sump and other equipment has been put into place.

Does your stand get dirty enough with salt creep that you clean it more than once or twice each year?

I suppose I could just drain the sump every few months during water-changes and move it for cleaning, if needed.

My sump is wedged in pretty tight - I have a 48” wide 120 gallon DT with a 40b sump and a 10g tank next to it for an ATO reservoir. I think there’s about 2 cm total extra space. I never have signifiant salt creep in the sump, but yes, you can drain the sump if necessary.
