Clearing up tank water after sand

What’s the best way to clear up water after you put sand in?

I put sand in after I put water in and it’s been about 12 hours.

what’s the expected timeline on it clearing up?

does anyone have any tricks? Just water changes?

Some folks have it clear in two days, some folks have ongoing headaches due to not pre rinsing it for a clear start. If it’s a nano, redo it as a pre rinse. It’s so animals wont kick it up after the fact, or rock slides, or power head issues causing re clouding

Add new sand without rinse

Hi guy, I just add new special grade sand without rinse. I added slowly 1/3 bag per day, but didn’t rinse. My tank seem cloudy, but I have skimmer and 2 filter socks. My tank has sps, lps and 9 fishes. Should I expect a mini cycle. I concern my coral and fish die tomorrow

the majority will clear in two days. But if not, we can easily fix your issue by just pre rinsing the sand to clarity which harms nothing, and in fact is preferable to not rinsing. Nobody ever made a frustration post about their laser clear water, only unrinsed sand gets the frustration posts.

Ok thanks! I’ll wait a couple days and see what happens.

it’s a 90 gallon tank.

i used 80 pounds of live sand so I didn’t think I should rinse that.

it comes with those “magnet clarifying” pouches but not sure how well those work.

thatd be a huge rinse job agreed, I give 95% chance its cleared by Friday, if not set up a canister filter with highly rinsed carbon inside and it’ll pull out particulates

even if you set it up correctly as a pre rinse that would take two solid days of tap rinsing to clear lol until we get truly rinse free bagged sand in the market large tankers will continue to have to take risks. Pre rinsing is never, ever harmful check this work out

add in those flocculant packs I bet it will clear. My work above is aimed at helping the 5% and dang there sure is a lot of them

You can add filter floss/pad material in the area before your return pump. Or, If you have a spare hang on back filter such as a AquaClear or Seachem Tidal you can put floss in that. It will catch the suspended particles.

I got live sand(pre rinsed) so didn’t rinse, not too cloudy after a couple hours should I add floss and skimmer ? Currently just have heater and return pump going for cycling stage (just started today )

Very interesting rock work. It looks awesome. I'm not sure of your plan but there are no places for fish and barely any for coral.
