Oh man, sorry for the loss but thanks for sharing. I was worried about this as I am awaiting my cover and ordered it with the feed door. My Lineatus is a whale of a fish at almost 5.5 inches so I'll secure the feed door with tape right off the bat! You came up with some good upgrade solutions and hopefully they'll be considered.

I think most will agree that the feed door can be lift/moved with very little effort.
This is my current quick fix:
tape to secure the door tightly until I need to feed, just simply lift up the tape on the tank glass and tape it back down after feeding.

ArtFully Acrylic and Incredible Corals aware of the issue and maybe improve on the already great product, more like a constructive criticism/review.
My 1st suggestion is maybe attach a lexan hinge to the feed door like the ones on the acclimation boxes will made the feed door stay in place even if a fish jump up and knock on it.
2nd suggestion/idea is to add a thin strip of magnet (like the ones on the frige doors) to lips of the feed door and a small strip of metal to the frame where the feed door lip it touching, like your kitchen cabinet doors, so to make the feed door able to be moved by human hands but not a fish.
3rd suggestion/idea is, which I think is best, to combine the hinge and magnet on the feed door to make it even more secure and easy to operate. Simply remove one lip on the feed door and replace it with the hinge and the other side use the magnet.
Again, I want to make myself clear that I have no intention to bash our vendor and/or their product. For years ppl have requested but no one step up to make a mass produced clean looking mesh cover for our tanks. And I appreciate the fact that Artfully Acrylic came out with such a great design and product which they were also able to accommodate different size and tank designs. I have no idea how these things are designed and built so the above idea/suggestions are just that, ideas, I am sure Artfully can come up with something better.
