Hi - I have my anemone in a box with the top of the box about a quarter of an inch below the water line. Does anyone know if anemones can climb above the water line? I already lost an anemone to the powerhead so want to make sure i don't lose another. Picture below for reference

It should be fine, I have never seen one crawl out of the tank

Anemones, especially BTAs, are unpredictable. I have one that escaped a Zen Reef shroom box with the lid on, which meant that it slithered through the slits which are probably only about 1/8" wide. If you have a small gap above the box, your BTA could feasibly escape. Since it's not coming completely out of the water, it doesn't have to support its own weight.

If you want to create an escape-proof box, keep the rim out of water, ideally add a lid, and line the sides (and bottom if there are slits) of the box with plastic canvas material that's commonly used for needlepoint and other hobbies:

My split Sherman rose just climbed over the edge of the box and of course I’m not home to catch it! Ugh

Hard to see from the blue lights with my camera however that’s the empty box and the anemone hanging on the underside of it. Hopefully it stays there till I get home! I circled the anemone in red.

I had one that must have climbed out of the box. Couldn't locate it until I found some remnants lodged in the Nero 3 fish guard (which I thought would protect the nem).

That was my fear. A pump would shred it and pollute my tank. It did however make its way into a rock cave which caused its own issues. After two hours of blowing flow on it and gently prying it, I was able to grab it and put it back in the box, waiting to be dropped off with it’s new owner later today! Lol
