clogged filter sock results high water lvl in overflow

I've noticed that as my filter socks get clogged the water lvl in my overflow will increase. is that supposed to happen? I have my primary drain, draining directly into the filter sock (no crash chamber). its actuall kind of a nice feature, if i notice water is trickling down my emergency drain, time to change filter sock.

Yes, it creates what is a Pooling and intead of filtering through the socks runs over the top of sock directly into sump adding a little to the water level

the filter sock isn't clogged enough where water is flowing over the top of the sock yet though. its the strangest thing to me.

If you have an auto top off be careful of clogged filters they trap more water and the ato thinks low water and adds fresh water lowering your salinity.
