I managed to pick a vectra m1 for a decent price. I’ve been debating using a closed loop system on my new build. It Is a 6ft 180g. I would only run a single pump, and the ports would be on the backside of the tank. I was testing the pump last night. And there no way my korilina evo 1500 put out half the flow the vectra does(even though it rated 2000 gallons).

The tank is only 18in wide. So I was thinking 4 ports(I hate putting powerhead a behind rocks anyway). Then 2 powerheads each on one side on the tank. I’m hoping to have an sps tank. It will also be bottomless.

I think closed loops are a great idea.
I have one on my 233. The link to the build is in my signature with pictures of the plumbing.
However on a sps 180, I would go with a larger pump. 2k gph on split 4 ways isn't really much for the effort.
When I first set mine up I went with the Vectra L1 for the closed loop and the Vectra M1 for the return pump.
The only problem I had was there were issues with the first gen L1's and I moved away from Vectras to Red Dragons.
Since then ETM made some changes to the Vectra line and I would not hesitate to go back to a Vectra L1 for my closed loop.
If you go with a stronger pump ( I strongly recommend it) for the closed loop, for say 3500-4000 gph, you can use loc-line y's on the inside of the tank and have water going 8 different directs instead of just 4.
I think you are on the right track, just IMO need a little bigger pump.
