Help Please! Just got a small colony of these bad boys from and they ain't looking so good. The other zoas I received and the others in my tank are fine. But after a few opened partially, these guys are closed. I had them on the sand for 72 hours after an overnighter to me, gently acclimated them (the others are fine), and sat them on the sand bed. I have T5's, a sump with skimmer. I don't see any zoa pox spots. Any help is appreciated.

They sometime take a while. If they start going south dip them, dip them, dip them .Peroxide dip or iodine dip.

I got about 50 polyps from an east coast guy about 3-4 months ago and paid good $ for them but only about 15 lived.. So I tried my luck again and placed another order from the same person 2 months later and had better luck with only half of them dieing... I guess they just are not good and hardy shipping corals.

Thanks jascymd

What is the outside limit in terms of time it will take for them to open up? I have lost zoas but am not sure what the next stage towards death is for them. What does that look like?

I'd also give a +1 on the iodine dipping, but I wouldn't wait too long to do it as it's a fairly low stress preventative (most Z's and P's like iodide anyways.) I'll typically dip in a quart tupperware container with a few squirts of lugols which is a MAJOR overdose based on label recommendations, but I've had great success with it and as of yet (knock on wood) no horror stories from doing it.

Acceptable Survival Rate?

Only 15 of 50 survived? And then you ordered more from the same guy? Seems you found this survival rate accepatble. Is this the experience of others you heard from? I know that these have a reputation of melting post fragging but this colony grew on the plug and do not appear to have been fragged; plug is covered with coraline.

no its not acceptable.. i ordered again because i thought it was my fault for first time... but when the same thing happened again i learned my lesson.. i guess i always give the seller the benefit of the duobt the first time... But thats just me.

Thank you everyone for your assistance and advice. I have done the Furan dips for the past three days. Some days looked better than others after the dip. Just wait and see at this point.
