I have a 60 gal cube reef tanks that's been running about 5 months

It's a 24in by 24in by 24in cube
Trigger systems cube sump
SAC 301 protein skimmer
Ai hydra 26 light(had to 2 on there but I drop it to one)
Mp40
Return pump is a Rio(looking to replace it)
Tune ato (with a 5 gal Reserve)
Neo therm heater 200 watts

I'm going to stay a refugium just waiting another week
I have a marine pure block(only have like 25 pounds of rock)

So tank has been cloudy pretty much the whole time
But I left for thanksgiving for 3 days and when I got back BOOM clear tank looked
Looking great. Had to clean the skimmer and refill the ato a
Also feed the 2 clown fish in there and went to sleep
When I woke up BOOM cloudy again I don't know why.
I've also tested every week some times twice a week so far everything is good
So any one that could help me get some clarity it will be much Appreciated

Do you run filter socks, and if so, do they get a little slimy?

To me, it sounds like a bacteria bloom. This is normally caused by carbon compounds becoming airborne. Things like using air fresheners, liquid carpet cleaners, burning candles, and even vaping are typical causes.

Sounds like a bacterial bloom without actually seeing it, I run ChemPure Blue in my sump which clears the water up great but something is reacting in the tank to maybe an outside source like stated above ..

Thanks for the fast reply.

Yes I use filter socks and there was but it went away. There was a lot of white slimy in the sump area but it all went away. My gf don't use some glass clearer in the living room but it more the 10 feet away and she spray it on the table

Do you use aragonite sand? Aragonite gets very cloudy when you add it to the aquarium so it's probably suspended particles.

My Carib-Sea aragonite sand came with a packet of Bio-Magnet. When I added it my cloudy tank became crystal clear overnight. Might want to give that product a try but you need to find out if it is safe for your fish and coral.

It's been cloudy for a 5 months ish now. The sand that I use is bigger and all has settle down it took a week for that to happen when I first set it up. I have been thinking of using a using something to clear it but I want to figure out why is cloudy in the chart place.

I know some people said it could be Air freshener or something other getting in the tank I want to put a lid on the tank but I heard that it's not good to do. Maybe a can Modify in aryllic top for the tank

You need air exchange for the aquarium to be healthy so a lid to keep out airborne contaminants would create other issues. You could only do that if you could plumb in an outside source for fresh air.

O ok I don't know if that's even it I'm just guessing....trying get it figure out

It can be a challenge to figure these things out when there is nothing obvious, like burning candles.

Ya it's a little Frustrating would buying a uv Sterilizer be worth it
