Added 40lbs of live sand to my new tank today. The tank is cloudy as expected. Should the return pump be on? Or will any sediment in the cloudy water have a negative affect on the pumps motor?

I was told to leave the filter off but keep some water movement. But not too sure.

I'm not planning to run my skimmer during the initial part of the cycle. Maybe after a week or two I will. I still need to get some eggcrate to elevate it some.

Well if your not worried about the cloudiness, you can leave it, it will pass. If you are worried about it, I'd turn on the filter and the skimmer.
