I can't get my tank clear :squigglemouth:

I don't know if it was because I was dumb and didn't rinse the sand or what. But I have done tanks in the past without rinsing the sand and by the next day they were clean. Its been up for about a day and a half with the salt and don't seem to want to clear up.

I am running the drain line through a filter sock which was pretty dirty this morning so I switched it out. I don't have any rock in the tank yet but I did add some to the sump last night. I put carbon in the sump last night as well.

Any ideas????? I am wondering if the salt didnt fully disolve??? But I can't see that being possible. Any ideas or tips would be awesome. Its not totally cloudy I can see to the back of the tank and all its just not clear. Its cloudy!!! LOL no lights on the tank yet too but that shouldn't matter either!

FRUSTRATED RIGHT NOW!

I've had tanks stay cloudy when first being set up for a couple days, especially if you didn't rinse the sand. I'd give it a few days and see what happens.

I'm assuming you've cleaned the inside of the glass? If not, part of the cloudiness might be dust that has accumulated on the glass. Do you have a lot of flow that is still stirring up sand dust? Sometimes putting rock in the tank will help by giving surfaces on which the sand particles can settle.

The last time I set up a tank with fresh sand, the water was cloudy for a couple of days because of strong flow and sand dust. I hung a Magnum H.O.T. filter on the tank with the micron filter installed and it cleared up in a couple of hours. If you don't have one, maybe you can borrow one. Though I rarely use mine, I think it's one of the handiest pieces of equipment to have around.

I never thought of the HOB I think I have one downstairs I could try using. I don't think theres that much flow however there is no rock work in the tank so that may be part of the problem as well.

dang.....well I have the hang on back running right now. Just need to get me some more filter pad! I have the carbon in the basement. Filter sock. I think between that I should see an improvement. And to think someone told me to rinse the sand and I said I never did before!! LESSON LEARNED!!!!!

Well I got home from work tonight and did some tinkering with the setup and added some of my liverock to the tank. It is starting to clear up pretty good already. I think the hang on filter with all the filter pad in it helped!

Thanks Gary. I am in "Awe" with most of your pictures absolutely gorgeous! My wife and I will be having our first child together in Dec (have a step-daughter now) and I have been trying to convince her to let me buy a Nikon D40 because I can get all the lenses from my dads old camera. I showed her some of your pics and think I just about have that locked up now!

Same thing with my tank. I didn't rinse the sand and whenever I stir it up the tank clouds up for days :/
I don't know what to do. The tank is already cycled! Could I still take out and rinse the sand?? Or would that ruin the cycle and make me have to restart it? Help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Jordan
