Cloudy water and smells

We have cloudy water after new fish and water change. Husband put stress coat in before fish and that made water cloudy so he put clear water chemicals in it to clear it which made it worse. He used freshwater Chems instead of salt and we have salt water tank. What do we do?

Several 25% water changes over the course of several days. Increased circulation to try to increase gas exchange. If you have a skimmer then good, if you don't it would be a good investment for you right now.

How long has the tank been running?
Are you referring to API stress coat, and which water clearer did you use?
Are buying pre mixed salt water or making your own?

I’d look up the specific “chemicals” on the manufacture website(s) and compare ingredients in the FW and SW versions. It’s really hard to answer your question with a blanket statement.

I would suggest to hold yourself back the next time your tempted to add bottled stuff, its much harder to balance out a saltwater tank compared to freshwater. You can see posts on the forum every single day "help, I added this to my tank and ruined my tank".

In this case, you added 2 different chemicals back to back, no one knows how all those chemical ingredients will react when the interact with each other.

Thank you he used API water clear.

Making his own salt water. About 6 weeks running time. API stress cost and API water clear.

Rule #1
Do not dose or add anything to a marine ( reef ) aquarium that you can’t test the need for !

if the aquarium has been properly cycled there is no need to add any conditioners , clarifiers to the water prior to adding fish .

good circulation , flow and proper parameters is all that’s needed to maintain clarity
Generally as soon as something is off balance or out of whack is when it goes cloudy or smells.
