Cloudy water using NOPOX

It is likely the bacteria. It has to grow somewhere, and sometimes with organic carbon dosing you get a fair amount visible in the water, especially when first starting, before much has begun to grow on surfaces, such as rock or sand.

I wouldn't do anything about it unless it stays long term. It is only an aesthetic concern.

Dosing just upstream of some place for the bacteria to grow can help, such as just before a rock filled refugium.

Thanks Randy,

should i keep dosing the same.. o should i cut to dose to half?

I'd stick to the recommended dose longer, unless you measure nitrate to be dropping substantially.

I do not consider visible bacteria to necessarily be any indication of overdosing, except, as I mentioned, from an aesthetic standpoint. But if it is too bothersome, reduce the dose will reduce the issue.

my No3 are above 10.. so i follow the indications and dose 3ml for every 25gal... my tank is 100g.

so i dose 12ml.

i dose on sunday , and yesterday the same 12ml.

that maybe because your NO3 and in an aceptable range.. mine are way to high. above 10.

i follow this chart. check it out.

i don't thing RedSea have this chart and make you overdose on purpose

Visible floating bacteria in the water is not going to hurt anything, so don't panic. In fact, filter feeders may really like it. :)

It is a very common result (just google "cloudy" and "NOPOX"), but most people panic and conclude they are dosing too much.

I disagree with that conclusion and see no basis for it, but if it concerns you, reducing the dose and starting to ramp the dose more slowly is a fine plan and usually reduces the cloudiness. :)

I agree with filter feeders enjoying it. When mine got cloudy from it everything gave me a feeding response especially my lobo so I fed all 6 of his mouths

Just be sure if you hit less than 2.5ppm nitrates is it? Or 0, cut the dose in half. I believe there's a statement about it in the instructions. Once you get nutrients low enough you'll cut back quite a bit.

This is pretty important otherwise you can cause a crash.

Second this. While I use vodka instead of NOPOX, I missed this part of the instructions and it was right around when my nitrates hit zero that I'd start seeing cloudiness right after I dosed. Fortunately I did some reading after the second time and caught it before it became an issue.

You irk me! The System will get a small shock from the sudden bio changes! I would cut back a little 4-5 mils, and then slowly bring it up to the intended dose.

hey guys just to let you know.. yesterday my water was really clear.! all my corals were shining! their colors were super bright!!

hopefully today the water gets totally clear :D

in happy with the result using NOPOX
Awesome! Post some pics!
